Das Observatorium überwacht die Vulkane der kampanischen Region. An den Hängen des Vesuv wurde es 1841 von Ferdinando II di Borbone , König von "Due Sicile" gegründet. Es ist das älteste Vulkanologieinstitut in der Welt, Dia-handcoloriert, aus Vortragsreihe: "Erdbeben und Vulkanismus"
